Choose a US poker site in two stages

The best online poker site for a US player must first be appropriate for that player’s location and eligibility. Only then does it make sense to compare games, fees and software. Start with the state-authorisation checklist; a large welcome offer cannot answer that question.

What to compare before opening an account

Keep the date beside each note. A screenshot without the game, stake or observation time can leave a misleading impression of availability. We have not supplied a universal player-count figure because a network total does not establish the tables available for your own session.

Match the room to the game you play

For cash games, compare the stakes and table sizes you actually want, rather than the size of an operator’s tournament advertisement. For tournaments, record the buy-in, fee, starting time, late-registration window and re-entry conditions. Then decide whether the possible session length fits your plans. A guaranteed prize pool is not your expected return. Learn the distinction in the MTT guide.

Compare costs using the same assumptions

A percentage alone is incomplete without the cap and the rules for charging it. Use the same game, stake and example pot when comparing schedules. Match the assumptions. The rake calculator estimates session costs from your attributed rake per 100 hands and playing volume.

For illustration, a hypothetical 5% charge on a $10 pot is $0.50 before any cap or exception. That is a calculation example, not a quoted fee for a listed room. Use the applicable tariff to calculate table rake, then use your attributed share for session planning.

Treat rewards separately. Record who qualifies, how rewards accrue, when they expire and which games count. A headline maximum is not a flat rate for every player. Eligibility comes first. See our rakeback comparison and read the linked terms before relying on an offer.

Published games, desktop support and rake

Start with the Pennsylvania regulator’s poker directory for the local WSOP route. Its Pennsylvania documentation supplies a cash-game tariff and Mac installation instructions. BetMGM publishes a separate US poker schedule linked from its New Jersey guide. Keep the markets separate.

At a qualifying $18 pot with five players, the quoted WSOP step produces $1 in rake before its $3 cap; the BetMGM step produces $0.90 before its $1 cap. At $36, the respective amounts are $2 and $1. Each pot is an exact multiple of both steps. These examples compare the published charging structures across their stated scopes; apply the schedule accepted by your own local account.

For a Pennsylvania Mac user seeking cash Hold’em, WSOP supplies both a documented installation route and a fee row. Begin there, then inspect your intended stake and session time. For a New Jersey account using BetMGM’s guide, retain that product’s tariff rather than transferring the Pennsylvania rate. Tournament selection needs the event’s own entry fee and re-entry rules.

Review account and budget terms before depositing
