WPT Global versus 888poker needs a defined goal. Qualifying for a live event and playing a short online session are different purchases. Start by deciding whether you want a specific event seat or a cash/tournament session within a fixed limit. A promotional package is not a substitute for that decision.
Check whether both products are options
WPT Global’s terms §2.5, Page edition: October 2026, exclude the United States, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, Ontario, Alberta and New Brunswick among other territories. In those places this is not a choice between two usable accounts. For Ontario, the iGO directory lists 888poker.ca, with age 19+ and physical presence required; its local agreement names VHL Ontario Limited.
888 has separate regional agreements. Its Ontario agreement concerns the Ontario service, while other markets use their own operator terms. Verify the exact domain and local authorisation. A brand logo or an accepted registration does not establish permission to play from your location.
For a live-event goal, price the whole trip
WPT Global’s official overview describes its WPT connection and Passport Dollars. For an actual qualifier, read whether the award is a ticket, restricted credit or a package. Record the target event, expiry, transfer rules and any travel allowance. Check the refund position if you cannot attend.
A hypothetical seat valued at 1,000 can still require 600 in transport and accommodation. If those travel costs exceed your planned budget, the seat does not make the trip affordable. The values are an illustration, not an advertised WPT or 888 package. For an 888-branded qualifier, ask the same questions from its own event terms; do not assume the awards work alike.
For an ordinary session, compare entries and controls
Choose your game, maximum entry cost and finish time. Inspect the applicable lobby rather than treating a live-tour partnership as evidence of easier online opponents. For tournaments, count possible re-entries in your budget. For cash, check the fee schedule and the permitted buy-in range before joining a table.
WPT’s Table Starter promotion rewards the first qualifying buy-in followed by a played hand on an eligible High-tab table. The advertised 40% uses attributed rake, not every charge or the whole pot; eligible NLHE stakes start at $25/$50/$100 or CNY100/200/400, with CNY200 Short Deck. PLO4, PLO5, Flash and heads-up-only tables are excluded.
888’s weekly cash promotion instead needs its email invitation and at least $200 weekly qualifying rake; that first bracket pays 5%. Northern Ireland is excluded. Its award is cash, with a seven-day claim period. Compare your qualifying session and received award, not WPT’s conditional starter percentage against 888’s highest bracket.
A selection rule for this pair
Use the WPT Global review for an eligible WPT-related event plan and the 888poker review for the relevant local product. For a live trip, compare the full ticket and travel obligations. For a session, compare the game you can play within your existing limit. Neither route establishes a guaranteed return. Event costs beyond the entry
For an event comparison, keep a separate record for the ticket or credit, target event, expiry, transfer/refund rules and travel allowance. Record the event’s prize contribution plus fee and your maximum paid entries before entering. Re-entries are optional purchases. A seat-only award and a package create different travel costs; the hypothetical example above is a budgeting calculation.

Before funding WPT, read withdrawal clauses 6.3.2 and 6.3.7: the terms require one-time wagering of subsequent deposits and state a rake/GGR requirement of at least 10% of the deposited amount before processing. They also permit a 30% fee for approving a withdrawal before the one-time requirement is met. Resolve how those conditions apply before depositing; do not play extra to unlock a withdrawal.
