Poker Rakeback Explained: Attribution, Rewards and Net Fees

Poker Rakeback Explained: Attribution, Rewards and Net Fees — Poker Term Explained

Quick Definition

Rakeback is a reward linked to eligible attributed poker fees under a programme's conditions. Its usable value can reduce playing costs.

What is rakeback?

Rakeback is a reward linked to eligible poker fees under a particular programme. It may reduce your cost of playing, but it is not a measure of winnings. Cash rewards, tournament tickets and bonus credits can have different uses and conditions; they should not automatically be added as equivalent money.

Table rake and your attributed fees are different

A cash pot may pay one fee collected from the table. The operator’s attribution rules determine how that fee is assigned to individual players for records or rewards. Your own attributed fee is not necessarily the total taken from every pot in which you receive cards.

Under a simple equal-share example, a table fee of 3 divided between six eligible players gives 0.50 each. Under a hypothetical proportional-contribution rule, a player assigned 20% of that fee receives 0.60 of attribution. These are different models, not two descriptions of every room’s policy.

Programme labels such as dealt, contributed and weighted-contributed need the operator’s definition. Read the actual rule instead of inferring it from the name. For tournaments, the relevant cost is the entry-fee portion, not the full amount contributed to the prize pool.

Calculate an effective rate

Effective cash return (%) = spendable cash rewards received / eligible attributed gross fees × 100. State the period and whether other benefits or deductions are excluded. A reward credited next month should be associated with the activity that earned it when making a like-for-like comparison.

For example, 120 in attributed fees and 18 in cash rewards give a 15% effective return and 102 in net fees. The calculation uses one currency and assumes no extra deductions. It excludes playing wins, losses, taxes and payment costs. The 18 returned is a partial fee rebate, not proof of profit.

Why a published maximum can mislead

Eligibility, tier progression, redemption rules and expiry can prevent you receiving a published maximum. For any programme, including the Ocean Rewards page or WPT Global’s rewards terms, confirm the current local rules and eligible activity. These links are places to check, not confirmation of today’s benefits or your account’s eligibility.

Use the current local terms for any room. This definition does not promise a fixed rate at PokerStars, 888poker or another brand. A programme description copied from an old review does not establish what your account earns today.

How should I compare an offer?

Record your attributed fees, eligible cash received and any restricted credits separately. Compare the net cost for the same format and period, then inspect the rakeback comparison checklist. The rake estimator can calculate a scenario from those inputs.

Should I play more to reach a tier?

A reward threshold does not establish a positive return from extra play. Keep your original spending and session limits; do not chase a tier by changing stakes or playing beyond them.

Record the date and local terms you actually checked. Include a reward in your budget only when its eligibility and usable value are clear.
