What Is Poker Rake?
Poker rake is the fee charged by a poker room for hosting cash games. It's typically calculated as a small percentage (2–5%) of every pot, capped at a maximum amount per hand.
Understanding rake is critical because it directly affects your win rate. A player who breaks even before rake is actually a losing player once rake is factored in. The lower the effective rake, the easier it is to be a winning player.
Types of Rake
- Pot Rake: A percentage (e.g., 5%) taken from each pot, up to a cap (e.g., $3).
- Time Collection: A fixed fee charged every 30 minutes. Common in high-stakes games.
- Tournament Fees: Entry fee percentage (e.g., $100+$10 = $10 rake on a $100 buy-in).

Rakeback — Getting Money Back
